UX writing is often called a higher level of copywriting, because UX authors also mainly create text content. So what is the difference between the two ?
The UX maker, takes part in creating and shaping the so-called experience of the product at an early stage. He is also involved in the project much longer than copywriter.
The UX author’s work is to guide the user through the process of using, for example, a website or application in an intuitive way. This means that the UX creator must not only know the target market and customer base, but also know how the medium used to convey a given message works. In a sense, take part in its design or improvement.
UX developers are also often engaged in running user behavior analysis. They interpret the data in order to understand how a given element of the presented content works. They work mostly in design groups, cooperating with other web designers or UX and UI creators.
What is a UX writer vs copywriting
Although most UX authors have a lot of experience writing advertising texts, the work of a UX creator is a bit more advanced. Texts created by a copywriter are designed to promote a product or service, attract a new consumer, or persuade the user to take a specific action.
A copywriter’s task is to gain a new user or client. Creating a need in a potential client which he was not fully aware of yet. In other words, to get him to act that he hadn’t planned before.
On the other hand, the work of the UX creator is more about keeping the current user or consumer and bringing them to the previously chosen goal. The task of the UX author is also to make the path that the user has to travel, as easy as possible. Making him not give up somewhere along the way.
What is a UX writer and how to become a UX specialist
Creating UX compliant content requires a combination of communication, marketing, copywriting, psychology and design skills. UX specialist is a relatively new profession, so there is usually no need for formal education in any of the above-mentioned professions.
There is no established career path yet, and UX writer often come from a variety of professional backgrounds. Representatives of many fields may possess the skills needed to compose UX effectively.
A good candidate for a UX creator should be characterized by:
- Good writing skills, the ability to write clearly and concisely
- Communication skills
- The ability to solve problems creatively
- Good understanding of the designed product and ways to improve it
- Analytical and research skills as well as the ability to understand and communicate information
- Team work skills
- Focusing on details
- High level of empathy
