Many factors affect the final appearance and functionality of a web page. In this post you will learn what are the four basic elements of the website, and what determines its position of in search engines.
When designing a website, you should focus on four basic elements; architecture, design, content, and optimization. It is worth mentioning that the first three elements, or stages of creating a website, also contribute to SEO, search engine optimization.
Table of Contents
The first step in creating a website is setting up the architecture. It is about registering a domain name, choosing hosting provider, and installing CMS system, a content management program on the website. Currently, the most popular website builder in the world is WordPress. According to the manufacturer, 38% of all websites operating on the global network, are built on the WordPress application.
Most hosting companies offer their users automatic installation of a content management system. The WordPress application, thanks to the many available themes, allows you to quickly and easily design the overall appearance of the website. Many additional plug-ins (mini programs) available for installation, enables the creation of extensive functions and significantly increases the system’s capabilities.
Very popular plugin Elementor, allows you to create pages from ready-made blocks, or import the entire page, developed in a given theme. There is also a wide selection of pre-built elements such as buttons, icons and forms.
Another very useful plugin is Yoast SEO, which helps you optimize your pages for search engines. The most interesting functions of the plugin include text analysis, during creating a post or a page, the option to enter keywords or generating a sitemap. The plug-in manufacturer also offers a pro version that has even more useful features.
First, you create a basic, raw version of the page. It’s mainly about running and testing your site, seeing what might not work, and fixing any errors.
Design and other elements of the website
At the design stage, the website takes on a specific look. We decide on the overall appearance of the website, colors and the position of graphic elements. One of the features of most WordPress themes is customizing the page. User can set, for example, page width, header and footer layout, as well as the color and type of font.
The menu is also an important element of every website. Properly selected menu elements facilitate navigation on the website, which improves the UX- user experience, the overall impression experienced by the user.
Creating more advanced website designs is often done by a big team of IT specialists, marketers and graphic designers. Websites are also often created from scratch, using HTML and CSS code. When you use CMS, it is also possible to modify the code additionally, and contrary to appearances, it is not that difficult as you think.
Writing texts for a website or blog is not a one-time activity, but a continuous process. Depending on the type of website or blog, the content should be constantly updated and modified. Regularly adding new articles, ensures a higher search engine ranking, and your site might be visited by more users.
When creating a large amount of content, it is very helpful to develop a content marketing strategy, that takes into account the goals and scope of the entire project. You should hire a professional copywriter to create high-quality content. Suitable WordPress plugins are also available to help you find any spelling and grammar errors.
Optimization as elements of the website
The final step in creating a website is optimization. What is an optimization? It is a process of constantly improving the website in order to increase the number of visits. More information on this topic can be found in the blog post “SEO and it’s benefits”.
Optimization is used to achieve the best position in the search results SERP, search engine result proposition. This process is called positioning. In other words, we optimize the website to position it. Sometimes the two terms are used interchangeably, which in my opinion is inaccurate.
Coming back to the heart of the matter, optimization is all about organizing information on your site to be as presented as possible. The use of appropriate SEO techniques will also encourage search engine robots to reach our content. This will contribute to a higher rating in the ranking and a better position in the previously mentioned search engine results, SERP.
Additional elements of the website
A newly created website should be assessed by an independent recipient. Therefore, present your finished project to colleagues or external users who are not involved in it. Ask them for a substantive evaluation of the site. You can also use a professional agency or online platform such as UserTesting.com
